The Cottage is nestled in the redwood forest of scenic Loma Mar, California – just 10 minutes inland from the town of Pescadero. This 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom mid-century boutique vacation cottage that sleeps 6, was built by my grandfather in the 1940’s on the same property as his parents, my great-grandparents. My ancestors were one of the first families to settle in Loma Mar and logged many of the redwood and oak trees until the early twentieth century.
With a population of 167, it’s hard to believe Loma Mar is just over an hour’s drive from San Francisco! You feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere, yet you’re not. Do you want the most memorable vacation ever? Look no further… Take a peek inside
- Unique Waterfall – to get you in the mood
- Hot Tub – to soak that stress away
- Fire Pit – to roast a few s’mores
- Large Deck – to relax with your favorite cocktail
- Garden – to stop and smell the flowers
- Old Fashioned Games – to rekindle that child within
- And More Surprises – because you deserve it!

- This Cottage is Pure Bliss We had the privileged of staying here for our wedding weekend, and WOW! Amy went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and cozy. The home is immaculate and the thought and details radiate love and warmth. Even with the PG&E power outages- with zero fault to the owners!!- we had the best time and made the best of it all. As modern as this home in the woods is, there is also plenty to do and enjoy without power! The home already had flashlights in almost every room, lanterns, and wood for the fireplace. We had such a peaceful weekend and dream of coming back soon!read moreread lessAshley W.
- Amazing Weekend Getaway They house was immaculate, so clean and nice. Beautiful porch to sit on and watch the sun set beyond the trees. They hot tub was great for a relaxing soak after adventures. The location is great for wanting to get away. It's far enough from everything to feel like youre in a different place but close enough if you want to go to the coast or the city. The fresh baked cookies and spa water in the fridge were a great addition and welcome gift.

- THE BEST RENTAL EXPERIENCE EVER I have stayed in a lot of VRBO places all around the US and Caribbean and The Cottage experience was THE BEST! Amy goes above and beyond to accommodate her guests - she literally thinks of everything. The house is immaculate, stocked with everything you could want or need. The decor is cute and the outdoor area is awesome. So much to do - ping pong, horseshoes, bbqing, fire pit, hot tub, hiking, all on or from the property. I am picky, and I was so pleased. - It's rare that an airbnb exceeds my expectations. There always seems to be something that is not quite as I'd hoped or expected. But this cabin was beautiful in every way. The structure itself was solid and well-built, the decor was beautiful with lovely touches around every corner and it was well-appointed from kitchens to linens to outdoor amenities. We were here on a rainy weekend so we couldn't fully take advantage of the outdoor space but we will next time! And there WILL BE a next time! - Amazing vacation rental The hostess goes above and beyond with little details and special treats as a welcome arrival. The gardens around the property are immaculate. The interior of the house was very well done, no expense was spared anywhere. Lots of activities like ping pong, horseshoes, ring toss, tons of games, hot tub, spa, the list goes on! - Our family took a vacation in the San Francisco area in July. After exploring the big city and the area north, we spent the final 4 days here in this beautiful cottage. We made the right decision to end our vacation here and just RELAX. We have rented many vacation homes over the years and this has to be the nicest we have ever stayed in. Our hosts made it very welcoming for us, even including a gift basket with wine, cheese, crackers, pistachios, and marshmallows for roasting over the fire pit. The kitchen is fully equipped to include coffee and even a stocked espresso machine. There are many thoughtful and interesting things to notice in the cottage from labels on containers to the artwork consisting of locals photographs of chickens, pets, flowers, and even a banana slug. The landscaping around the house is a treasure -- many different types of plants and flowers. My son and I had fun playing ping pong on the back patio. Wood is provided to build a fire in the fire pit and my wife read there in the evenings while my son and I relaxed in the hot tub. We loved the lack of humidity and being able to sit outside with no mosquitoes! I am an early riser and sat on the front deck in the mornings and listened to roosters crowing in the distance and watched a deer grazing in the grass next to the driveway. The cottage is in a heavily-wooded, hilly, rural area. While there are neighbors nearby and people driving by on the road, the cottage has plenty of privacy with a fence and trees. We always felt secure and private. The cottage is about 20 minutes from Pescadero which has a gift shop, small grocery store, and Duarte's Tavern which is a good place to have a nice dinner. A little bit farther and you are on Highway 1 at Pescadero Beach so it's easy to get on the highway to explore Half Moon Bay or Monterey on a day trip. When we arrived at the cottage, all three of us were burned out. When we reluctantly left to go home, were recharged. - The cottage was better than excellent! We sat on the front porch in rocking chairs sipping wine and looking out at the beautiful redwoods. We drove into Half Moon Bay to get fresh crab to bring back for a delicious dinner. Amy had left a bottle of wine and many treats to enjoy. Our son proposed to his girlfriend while we were there at Pescadero State Beach. The beach is only 10 minutes away and is so beautiful. We took hikes at the Pescadero State Park winding through huge, majestic redwoods. The interior of the home was beautifully decorated as was the outside landscaping. - Our group unanimously agreed that this was hands down the best Airbnb experience we've ever had.
Accommodations: The amount of consideration Amy put into making sure we had all the accommodations we needed was unreal-- homemade vanilla marshmallows for the fire pit, baked cookies (Amy, I've been requested to ask you about the recipe!) , fruit-infused water, bottle of house wine, makeup remover and special washcloths, a literal tome of a guidebook, handwritten welcome sign, hot tub towels, and way, way more. The cottage was so exquisitely decorated with quaint furnishings -- really felt like a "Secret Garden" experience.
Amenities were perfect for us: tons of games, fire pit with all the necessary equipment, hot tub, cute porch with swing and rocking chairs to enjoy in the mornings with a cup of Nespresso.
Location was 10/10: right by a bunch of parks great for hiking, very quiet (we slept so well!)
Communication: Amy was so helpful prior to and during our trip. She essentially sent us a FAQ list, complete with what the house already contained (e.g., which specific cooking equipment) so we knew exactly what to pack. She made sure we had everything we needed, and we couldn't have asked for more.read moreread lessSharon - My wife and I spent her birthday weekend at the cottage, and it was a perfect getaway. It was a bit of an indulgence for just two people, since the house has two bedrooms (both with large beds) and two full baths. But it was a special occasion, and it looked perfect for our purpose, which was to lounge around and do as little as possible.
We arrived on a Friday night (stayed through Sunday), and found the cottage all lit up with music playing inside. A gift bag of wine, fruit, and snacks greeted us in the kitchen. The house was in perfect condition; everything very clean and in order.
The kitchen (which is where I usually get picky) was well-stocked, and had all the tools I needed for a few modest meals. The closest food shops are several miles away and close early, so you kinda need to plan ahead. Provided in the house is coffee, tea, sugar, salt, and pepper. There's a coffee grinder, drip machine, and an espresso pod machine, too. The only thing I wish we'd brought was milk for the coffee.
The dining room is just outside the kitchen and seats 6. The living room has a bunch of comfortable chairs, a fireplace, a TV with cable and DVD player, and a foosball table (kinda weird, but okay). There are a ton of great board games and books in the bookshelf. My wife and I kept calling it "the most interesting bookshelf in the world".
The two bedrooms and bathrooms are both clean and in great shape. I found it a bit weird that there wasn't a dresser to put your clothes in (in either bedroom), but there were shelves in the closet that did the trick. The bed we stayed in was comfy and warm. The window coverings aren't exactly opaque, so bring an eye mask if you want to sleep in.
Outdoors there are a ton more things: a nice deck that looks out to the road, a patio in the back with a gas grill, a hot tub, a fire pit, and then a hammock and swing a little ways up the hill.
The setting is a big redwood grove, and a half mile down the road is Memorial Park, which looks like a great park for camping. We took a little hike down there during our stay, and it was beautiful to see the creek and the redwoods. And the banana slugs! The cottage has lots of helpful little maps and guides that will get you the hike or nature experience that you're looking for.
I can't say enough nice things about this spot. Would highly recommend for a lazy weekend away in the woods. The proprietors clearly care a lot about their guests' experience, and everything from the initial booking to our arrival was easy and stress-free.read moreread lessAndrew M. - Wonderful mountain escape The cottage is lovely and well-appointed with everything you can think of. Amy was responsive to our requests and questions and was always pleasant and helpful. It was a perfect location for a get-together with old friends. We enjoyed the rockers on the deck, the hot tub, cooking in the well-appointed kitchen, grilling fresh fish outside, fires in the fire ring after supper, and fires in the living room fire place on chilly evenings. (We also enjoyed local wines during many of these activities!) Spent one day going to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, another exploring nearby beaches and picking up fresh fish in Half Moon Bay. The last day we took a couple of nearby hikes through the red woods and then returned to the cottage to laze around. I have particularly fond memories of reading a book in the hammock under the redwoods. I highly recommend this vacation property. - Amy's cottage is amazing! The attention to detail is above and beyond and you can really feel the care that Amy has taken in helping create a memorable experience for her guests. From personal notes and gifts of fresh blackberries, homemade wine and even a birthday ballon, Amy extends a warm hearted welcome. Since Amy's family has roots in this home, she has invested a sensitive energy to how it is presented and honored. - The perfect relaxing getaway From the time we booked our stay several months ago Amy has been welcoming, responsive, efficient and friendly. We booked here because a family member was getting married in a nearby state park and we knew it would be a convenient location. Our experience far exceeded our expectations. We flew in to San Jose and used Amy’s detailed directions (complete with photos – yeah!) to wind our way to the Cottage and were welcomed with homemade cookies and marshmallows and wine. The property was immaculately, spotlessly clean, very comfortable, and had every single thing we could want or need. The kitchen was fun to cook in - the appliances seem brand new, there are lots of pots and pans and dishes and utensils and very sharp knives! The front porch with its rockers and swing were perfect for coffee in the morning and wine in the evening. We cooked dinners on the grill and ate at the table on the back porch. The flowers surrounding the house are so lovely and obviously well cared for; the hot tub made for a perfect de-stresser; the internet was fast and reliable; the music provided a great background for our time there – streaming 50’s and 60’s music matched the era of the house and made for lots of fun sing-alongs; even the bathrooms are terrific! The roosters in the morning were a little shocking the first day but we got used to them pretty quickly. 😉 While the rest of our family were stuck in the traffic and noise of Half Moon Bay, we were relaxing in our mountain refuge. Amy’s sense of fun and attention to detail are apparent and very much appreciated. We loved the family touches, stories and information about the area. - Perfect Escape If you are looking to destress, this is the perfect getaway. We are very particular about our lodgings, but fell in love with this cottage. It is beautifully decorated, newly renovated, and super clean. But what makes it so special, are the details and care that the owners have put into making your stay memorable. Every time we turned around, a surprise awaited us. Whether it was a hammock tucked in the backyard amongst the redwoods, the welcome basket, or the quilt made by the owner's grandmother, we just really enjoyed being there. We have stayed at Costanoa and would much rather stay here. The cottage has everything to keep you occupied: movies, foosball, old-fashioned games, table tennis, a fire pit, hot tub, swing, logs for a fire, etc. The owners are a delight to deal with. - Awesome! I rented The Cottage since my son was getting married in nearby Memorial Park. While it looked terrific on the website, it is even better in person. I kept pinching myself! I walked in to find a beautiful welcome basket along with soothing music playing. Everything is in perfect condition. The owners have included every amenity imaginable, including coffee beans and a grinder! The grounds/landscaping are just as wonderful as The Cottage itself. We took full advantage of the BBQ, hot tub, rocking chairs overlooking the redwoods, beautiful waterfall, and made the most delicious s'mores in the fire pit. I was so glad we had included extra days on either side of the wedding so that we could truly enjoy this fantastic property. - Great Getaway! It’s impossible to describe in words how great this cottage really is. I stayed here with four friends over New Years, and our three nights could not have been better. During the booking process, Amy took the initiative to provide us with information about the region, including activities, sites, and stores for supplies.
A generous welcome basket greeted us upon arrival, and it took us less than a minute to realize that the cottage managed to exceed our already sky-high expectations. The house is cozy and comfortable, and the kitchen (and grille) is fully equipped and spacious enough for all of us to lend a hand when making meals. With ping-pong, puzzles, board games, foosball, hot tub, horseshoes, a fireplace, etc, it was tempting to stay in the house for the full 72 hours! However, we were glad that we did venture out into the beautiful surroundings to enjoy the forest and coastline.

- Fabulous vacation retreat nestled amongst the redwoods My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at The Cottage during our trip to San Francisco for a wedding. The Cottage is a gem of a vacation home, one of the best we've ever stayed in. It was such a welcome retreat to Arizona’s extreme summer. The attention to detail the owners have is astounding. The home feels fresh and new with a mid-century modern style and is extremely well-kept. We wish we could have stayed longer to fully enjoy all the recreational activities around the home like ping pong, horseshoes, the fire pit, hot tub, hammock, and swings. We had the opportunity to take a walk to nearby Memorial Park and loved seeing the mother deer with their fawns. Usually I would be first up, starting coffee, and watching birds eat at the feeders. Then outside, where the rooster would be crowing, and mist starting to dissipate. I like the fact that no children under 12 or pets are allowed. This helps preserve the beauty and condition of your cottage, plus being quieter. You leaving homemade treats and infused water was very thoughtful. I made every effort to leave the cottage as I would wish. The hot tub, waterfall with frogs, fire pit, and plantings wherever one chanced to look....lovely. We ate lunch at Alice’s Restaurant on way in from San Francisco. Excellent food. Get their iced tea! - The Cottage Where Water Falls is a true gem! Unique among stays anywhere in the world - here in our own neck of the woods.... Here are just some of the hospitality touches you may enjoy: fresh baked cookies, homemade marshmallows, wine, nuts, and fruit-infused water; a record player with awesome vintage records; tons of games; interesting books; Nespresso and frother (gotta have the frother!); outdoor paradise - clean hot tub under the stars, great ping pong table, horse shoes, hammock, swings.... The fire pit was already prepped with paper, kindling, and logs all ready to light! We went to sleep to a chorus of frogs and woke with the roosters.... The historical information was fascinating, too. The setting is fantastic, too. So close to Pescadero and the little towns dotting the forest. The new Loma Mar Market with awesome pastries is a few minutes away. We hiked the Heritage Grove Trail (many nearby parks were unfortunately closed due to last fall’s fires), drove the Stage Coach Road, visited farm stands, Harley Farms (baby goats! Goat cheese!), Bean Hollow/Pebble Beach, and Half Moon Bay easily in a weekend. Coolest thing ever - the instructions for checkout are not to clean - you’re on vacation! Of course we still tidied, etc., but without the stress of - what can be at other Airbnbs - draconian cleaning requirements on top of a steep cleaning fee - which can be a damper at the end of any vacation. - Regeneration and relaxation under the redwoods We knew when we opened the gate onto the lovely flagstone patio and heard the frogs creaking in the waterfall pond that we had stumbled upon a magical place in the redwoods of the Santa Cruz Mountains. We had booked the cottage (by the way, calling this a cottage is modest in the extreme) on short notice when a previous reservation had fallen through. Lucky us! Sometimes clouds do have silver linings. We were talking about this with our friends as we let the hot tub soak away our long day of travel. Amy's welcome basket (wine, cheese, nuts, and other goodies) had been waiting for us on the island in the extremely well-appointed kitchen. The home, and it is a home, is wonderful in all respects: spotlessly clean, very comfortable beds, decorated with amy's winsome photographs of local creatures, and some pieces dating to the time the house was built. If you are wine drinkers, make sure to try the Pinot Noir made by the family who runs the grocery store in Pescadero Creek, which I suspect you'd be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. I couldn't stop thinking about The Cottage and how nurturing it was to be there. So....I just came back from a second weekend getaway there, with different friends this time. Amy has thought of EVERYTHING to make your stay as comfortable and fun as possible. The cottage is spacious, bright, and appointed beyond anyone’s expectations. The decor and design, inside and out is so well thought out, every detail is brilliantly considered, from the hammock placed in a magical spot under a canopy of redwoods to the many personal touches throughout the home.
