Built in 1867, Pescadero Community Church is not only a California Registered Landmark but the oldest church within the San Mateo – Santa Clara County region. Its Classical Revival style reflects the cultural background of pioneering Yankee settlers who made their way west to call the coastal community of Pescadero home.
The main street which this church sits on is called Stage Road. It was originally the main route along the coast which carried passengers and freight for the Wells Fargo Company. Some say if you listen closely, you can almost hear the distant rumblings of the stagecoach making its way toward town. Stories have surfaced of those long-ago visitors who came to holiday in the grand resort hotels of Pescadero which is sadly long gone…
In fact, this Sunday the Community Church will be celebrating 150 years of existence! There will be a service at 11 am featuring the choir and church history, followed by a BBQ lunch, ice cream, and live music. Come out!
